Pre- Installation Phase
· Computer Assembling
· Check CMOS setting
Make 1st Boot device as CD-ROM 2nd boot device as Hard disk Hard disk:-
IDE 0 HDD 0
IDE 1 HDD 1
IDE 2 HDD 2
IDE 3 HDD 3
Save CMOS setting and exit
1. Insert windows XP disk in CD-ROM (bootable)
2. Press any key to boot from CD…..
3. Then, windows will install all required
4. System files for its hardware peripheral in to hard disk drive.
5. After few minutes it will display us 3 options.
6. To setup windows XP now, press enter.
7. To repair a windows XP installation use recovery can sole, press R
8. Press f3 to quit setup
NOTE
We must select the 1st option i.e. enter we can not perform repair from this stage.
1. It will display licensing agreement (press f8 to agreement & confabs)
i. After license agreement it might show\display another two options for recoving windows and installing fresh XP.
It display list of OS installed already
2. Press R to repair the windows. (Press R)
3. If you need to install a fresh copy of windows XP press esc.
Note:-
We con repair windows using the 1st option press Esc
It (setup) will forward us to hard disk partition options
I. If you need to create a partion in unpartion space, press C.
II. If you need to delete a partion press D
III. Press enter in the selected partion if you want to run setup in it.
How to create a partition?
In order to create partition in unpartion press C, it will prompt us to another window.
It will display the maximum all action size of hard disk. Press back space button and clear the given numbers. Now give your required partion size unit in MB.
I.e. 1024mb=1GB
1024*40mb=40 GB
40960mb=40 GB
How to delete a partion?
Ø First select the partion that you want to delete.
Ø Then press D
Ø It will display confirmation window.
Ø Press enter (if it is a partion containing OS) Only in C. It will display confirmation window press L.
Note
In both cases, if you have any doubt with partion, then press Esc in sled & enter or L select the c: (primary partion) and press enter. It(setup)will ask us to select the file system and way to format the c: (either quick or slow) select you desired option & press enter.
Now,
Setup will format the selected drive and starts copying the OS files from CD to hard disk i.e. in c: After completion of file copying computer will restart. This time let your computer boot from hard disk.
Benefits of repairing a computer (OS)
Ø No data will be loss.
Ø We don’t need to format the partion
Ø Deleting and creating new partion is avoided.
Ø While repairing earlier states & users settings of an OS remains some
Ø We don’t need to re-install the hardware drive files.
Note
While repairing files from windows directory will be deleted and new files are copied in it place.
