How to Choose a Supplier When Building a Computer
When you decide to build your own computer you want to select a parts store that has low prices, excellent customer service, quick shipping, a large selection of parts and a great reputation. Through my years of experience in assembling computers I have found the companies on this page to be very reliable and trustworthy. They are large, established companies that sell tremendous quantities of computer parts, which is why they can offer lower prices than other stores can.I recommend you buy your parts online. Online stores are cheaper, have a much wider selection and generous return policies. It is much easier to sit in the comfort of your home to order the exact parts you want rather than driving to a computer hardware store only to find they don't have want you need. Then you have to scrounge around for substitute parts (and hope they work as well as the ones I recommend) or else drive to yet another store.
TigerDirect
Tiger is the world's largest computer parts supplier. They buy in tremendous bulk, which means they usually offer the lowest prices. They have the widest selection too. Tiger's customer service, shipping and reputation are top-notch. I highly recommend them.TheNerds
TheNerds is another great place to buy computer components. Their prices are good and they have a wide selection and the website is easy to navigate. They sell much more than just computer parts. They also carry housewares, outdoor gear, home electronics and office products. TheNerds is a great option for you when building a computer.Newegg
NewEgg is another great option. They have an easy to use website, fantastic customer service and low prices. They have become very popular and I highly recommend them too.Amazon
When we think of Amazon we think of books. But they also offer lots of electronics and computer parts. You can sometimes find excellent deals on the site, but it can be harder to find what you are looking for - especially if you don't know the brand name and model number exactly. Amazon is also a great resource for finding informative books that could teach you a lot about building computers. Click the Amazon link to be taken directly to a section of Amazon that contains exactly the books and parts I suggest.eBay
You can find anything on eBay, including computer components. You will definitely find bargain prices for your parts on eBay. The downside is you will probably have to buy every part from a different seller, which can cause you to pay more in shipping costs than just ordering everything from Tiger Direct or NewEgg. Be sure to check the seller's feedback reputation before bidding on the auctions...
