If you haven't done so already, you will need to Order Your Floppy Disk Drive now.
If you are using the CoolerMaster CM690 case that I recommended you can turn to page 7 of the manual to see their graphical representation of the installation process. You will need to use the converter frame that allows you to turn one of the 5.25 inch drive bays into a 3.5 inch bay. We will have to do this because we need to be able to access the drive from outside the case in order to insert a disk. None of the CM690 3.5 inch drive bays are accessible externally. Let's put the floppy drive in the bottom 5.25 inch drive bay.
Remove the front bay cover of the bottom 5.25 inch drive bay. Flip the side latch up. Pull out the 3.5 inch converter tray and place the floppy drive into it. Use 4 screws to fasten the drive to the tray. Slide the drive back into the bay with the plugs facing into the interior of the case. Flip the side latch down and into place.
If you are using a different case just slide the floppy drive into a 3.5 inch bay with front access and hold it in place with four screws.
Using the floppy disk drive (FDD) ribbon cable provided in the motherboard box, attach the end with the split-twist into the black FDD Header in the upper right of the motherboard. One edge of the cable will be colored (usually red but sometimes blue). Put that edge on the side of the header with the numeral 1. The other end of the cable goes into the back of the floppy drive with the colored edge corresponding to the end labeled numeral 1.
You can now attach a straight 4-pin power cable from the power supply into the back of the floppy drive.
Now that you have installed all three disk drives you are almost ready to re-attach the front panel of the case. You will have to remove the plastic bay covers from the front panel so you will have access to the CD/DVD burner and the floppy disk drive. Page 10 of the case manual shows you how. It is pretty easy to pop them out by pressing firmly from the front of the panel. Be sure to insert the mesh cover into the floppy bay of the front panel. Replace the front panel onto the case.
